Bullis School is Hiring a Middle School Mathematics Teacher Near Potomac, MD

Bullis School seeks a Middle School Math Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community for the 2024-25 academic year. Candidates should be capable of teaching a range of students, with a specific focus on developing and implementing a robust and engaging hands-on math curriculum for subjects ranging from 6th Grade Math to Geometry. This is a full-time benefits-eligible position reporting to the Head of Middle School. The assignment includes teaching five classes, as well as leading co-curricular activities, including advising eight to twelve students.

The Middle School Math program believes in developing students who are passionate and confident in their math abilities. Additionally, the program works towards building strong foundational skills that students will need to be successful in Algebra 1 and beyond. The Bullis Middle School cultivates independence and leadership in a supportive academic environment. Teachers create the conditions for discovery both inside and outside of the classroom supporting and encouraging students to take risks, collaborate and explore. Middle School teachers are fully invested in all students' growth mindset by engaging in events, clubs, and other opportunities that go beyond the classroom. Successful Middle School teachers at Bullis are committed to ongoing professional development and a wide range of teaching approaches to reach a diverse student population. In line with the school’s culture of innovation and a student-centered approach, curriculum development, and lesson design are continuous endeavors and an opportunity to work in subject- as well as grade-aligned teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach five classes per academic year.
  • Duties within the community, including student advising or other extracurricular activities
  • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy
  • Collaborate with mathematics colleagues to further advance department goals and initiatives
  • Participate and collaborate with teachers and other subject area experts on grade-level and interdisciplinary teams
  • Use technology to enhance students’ active, experiential, and hands-on learning
  • Create learning environments that encourage risk-taking and deep learning for students with a range of learning abilities using a variety of methods and technology
  • Use of reflection and feedback aimed at continued growth in the field of teaching and working with young people
  • Collaborate with grade level colleagues to develop project based learning opportunities for students
  • Remain current in pedagogical practices and field-related trends
  • Attend Middle School divisional, social studies department, grade-level, and interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students’ progress, as needed and appropriate.
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standard and provide timely feedback to students
  • Use the student learning management system to provide timely feedback, grades, and assignments to students


Other Duties

  • Other tasks as assigned by the Head of Middle School
  • Continued professional development endeavors

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
  • Minimum of two years prior teaching experience


Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field
  • Proficiency with Windows or Apple OS, Microsoft Office, cloud computing (Google Docs, etc.), and other productivity and media software
